Background

  • Breezy is the ultimate user-friendly task manager app, designed to simplify and organise every aspect of your life.

Problem

  • complicated and overwhelming interfaces

  • lack of user-friendly approach

  • non-responsiveness across devices

Process

Research & Planning

  • Conducted comprehensive research on major project management platforms like Trello and Asana.

  • I gathered user reviews from the App Store and Google Play Store, used ChatGPT to extract detailed data on users' needs and pain points.

  • I conducted a user surveys to gain a clear understanding of our potential users.

  • Creating these personas was very interesting, as it involved considering two user groups: regular management app users and occasional users who mainly use mobile or tablet devices.

  • This offered a great chance to understand different user segments and see how each interacts with the same product.

  • Conducted comprehensive research on major project management platforms like Trello and Asana.

  • I gathered user reviews from the App Store and Google Play Store, using AI to compile extensive user preferences and challenges data.

  • I decided to implement a user survey to understand our potential users better. Based on my analysis, I developed user personas and identified the target demographic for our management tool.

Design & Prototyping

  • I worked closely with the product owner and developer to create user-friendly interfaces and interactive mockups.

  • Created simple design system based on @shadcn/ui - Design System

Implementation

  • I used flexible, agile strategies to build the scheduling application from the ground up.

  • I continually refined the designs based on user feedback to enhance functionality and visual appeal.

Testing & Optimization

  • I evaluated devices for compatibility and efficiency, gathering user feedback to enhance usability and satisfaction.

Utilizing this information to benefit the users

Based on my research, I've established user personas and identified the target audience for my management tool.

Creating personas for this project was interesting because I had to consider two types of users: those who use management apps daily and those who rarely use them and they mostly use only phone/tablet devices.

This was an interesting chance to understand different user groups and see how both interact with the same product.

Jolley
CEO at Marketing Agency

“I juggle multiple projects, to-do lists, meetings, and deadlines daily. I need a tool that helps me schedule tasks efficiently, set priorities, and receive timely reminders to keep everything running smoothly."

Laura
Hair Salon Owner

"With sixteen years in the beauty industry, I know my way around a salon, but when it comes to technology, I need something straightforward. I spend a lot of time in my salon, so having a simple, friendly and easy-to-use tool on my phone is essential for managing both the business and my clients."

Usability Testing & Iteration

I conducted usability testing on desktop Hi-Fi wireframes to ensure ease of use and functionality.

I took the feedback into account and made multiple design iterations to ensure consistency and an improved user experience.

Some screens were set aside for the next MVP iteration.

Objectives

  1. Prioritise the assurance of feature functionality.

  2. Ensure that the flow is both intuitive and simple.

  3. Identify usability issues and uncover any existing or potential pain points.

Tasks

  1. Find out how to add a new task.

  2. Edit a project in the management app.

  3. See all projects and track their progress.

Participants

I conducted remote usability testing sessions with each participant individually, completing a total of 6 participants from each user group.

The user groups consisted of professionals using existing management apps, and family & friends who are students or individuals who prefer structured daily tasks with ease.

Feedbacks

  • "The button was easy to find. I liked that there were 3 options for creating a task. Task was easy to complete."

  • "I managed to complete the task. It took me a second to understand that the "Management App" is under the projects. I think I was expecting to click on the project button from the menu and to get navigated to a new window."

  • "Finding all projects is also good and easy to find. Would be nice to also have that as a filter on the 'my projects section'."

Redesign

After conducting usability testing, receiving constructive feedback, and having discussions with a team, I made several iterations to enhance the interface. This made it more useful and less confusing for users.

Learnings

The project posed both challenges and rewards.

I worked in a remote team, led meetings, justified design decisions, and fostered developer collaboration.

Even though the project didn't succeed, it provided invaluable learning experiences covering hard and soft skills.
